I’d like to add that Nine Inch Nails were huge fans of Doom. iD met them and asked them to do the soundtrack. They only agreed to do it if no sound quality was lost. That condition meant that there was a lot of time and effort spent on the technical side to get the sound that good. This is (part of) the reason why the music plays when you put the game disc in a CD player!

i never liked Quake. It's always dark and jumps are not high - not very fun to play. It's ironic how the latest advanced in computer graphics were used to produced a gloomy horror game with extreme unprovoked violence. And soon after Duke Nukem 3d came out, which had a lot better movements and was not so depressingly dark and gloomy.

Would be nice to know more behind the scenes like how sprites were drawn. What type of computers were used, c++ compiler, digital audio workstations for the music etc?

I remember buying the full retail version of the Quake CD, and installing it on my fairly new Pentium 120 PC with a CDROM and sound card. Worked like a charm and I was straight into game play. This was two years before I got dialup internet. Those were the days.

I'm really disappointed that they took this incredible atmosphere and setting and discarded it completely. The closest we get to Q1's story even being acknowledged is some of the background lore in Quake Champions. Give us another Quake story god dammit!

Wow not one mention of Trent Reznor doing all of the sounds and music. This wasn't a full on detailed "making of Quake" video at all missing more than half of the stories and content.

I still have my Dreamcast and all the games I bought back in 2000 including both Sonic Adventures. I heard it was on PS3, so I turned it on and bought Sega Bass Fishing and Sonic Adventure on the PSN store last week. It was $3.99. Now, ironically I see this video on my recommended. This game was so revolutionary when it came out. It really is one of those sayings that is overused, but not here. And that is you had to be there to understand. Sonic Adventure is great memories. I still enjoy it.

Every post Dreamcast version sadly doesn't have the game defining, super atmospheric lighting or correct transparency graphics. Then there's the fur textures replaced with weird, shiny rubber like textures. Surprised you didn't mention the outer purple/blue bars in 2010/11 HD port as it didn't run in widescreen. Otherwise really great video on the game!

The OVA was my intro to Tenchi but I only like the first 2 seasons, Tenchi Universe plus the related films are actually my favorite version of the Tenchi Anime.

This was Sonic's answer to Super Mario 64 and I say it delivered well. I love 3D Sonic, especially Sonic Unleashed and Generation. I grew up with the GameCube so SA series was my introduction to Sonic 🔥

My favourite character of Street Fighter 2, was Blanka he was definitely the most odd ball character in the game. I was never fan of Ryu and Ken as I found both too boring similar compared to the other characters.

I love Sonic adventure 1 I beat it for the first time since I was a kid recently and it was a lot of fun. I didn’t have a lot of issues with jank but I’m used to playing a lot of old 3D games so maybe I’m biased.

If I am not wrong Trent Reznor from NiN was making soundtrack.

I refuse to play Super Metroid until I own the original hardware. The development of this game is very inspiring to me from the dedication and determination of the development team going through a hellish crunch period. It’s admirable.

It is too bad Quake was actually the result of total choas and mismanagement... but to think that if things had come together smoothly it would not have been the same result at all :S

Best game ever made.

The game visually has a broad palette, the sound effects are thoughtful and impactful, the music is moody and atmospheric. But the game design is immeasurably valuable for all developers. “Go play Super Metroid, it is perfect.”
